Google seeking beta testers for data-only Google Voice service

April 05, 2018 — Nalioth

Yesterday, Google put out an invitation to current Google Voice users to beta test a data-only Google Voice implementation.

The program is not available yet, but you can sign up now and will be contacted with it becomes avaialble. The code for this functionality has been seen in the current build(s) of GV for a couple of months now.

In a nutshell, this upgrade to Google Voice will allow you to utilize Google Voice over your cellular data or WiFI connection. You will even be able to install & use GV on non-cellular devices ( previously, GV required a wireless carrier phone number to function ) such as tablets or phones with bad ESNs.

This is very exciting news!

If interested, head over to Google & sign up
