Unix fortune has been around for decades. It's a command line program that returns a joke, quote or other small text.
Every day in the wee hours, Novarata's fortune server provides a new fortune. It plumbs over a dozen fortune databases for these, so you'll rarely see the same fortune twice
This author has even created two fortune databases.
Webmasters: If you need daily content, feel free to point your wget | curl | axel | aria2 | php include directives at the fortune server.
